Speed Reading should though, be clear and crisp enough and not beyond the listener’s or the reader’s retention or comprehension. It involves the fact that all phrases and all words do not need the same emphasis and time and the mastery over these as such is improved with practice. This trademark elimination and tricky segmented pronunciation helps increase the reading speed and hence is termed “Speed Reading”.
Some tips and tricks for speed reading:
- You should have an eye test done to confirm that your eyes don’t call for reading glasses before you start on with speed reading. You should even talk to your doctor and know the light which is best for reading. These things will help you in increasing your speed reading potential.
- To read faster, your eyes should move faster than what they will move when you read normally. Hence, to keep away from eye strain, you should spend sometime exercising your eyes daily.
- Are you aware of the fact that the first sentence of a paragraph contains the entire summary of the paragraph? Hence be careful while reading the first line of the paragraph and read it thoroughly as compared to the rest Para.
- Well another secret of speed reading is, “block reading” and not word-by-word reading. So before you start reading, be clear with your goals that what do you want out of the material you are reading. This will help you read faster and at the same time understanding what you are reading without going through each and every word.

- Once you are done with speed reading, analyze that in your mind and then write a summary of what you read. This help in retaining the information you read and will help you understand whether you have understood the matter or not.
- Sitting position is also very important when you are reading fast. Upright and straight posture with the book help in front of your eyes is the ideal position for speed reading.
These small tips and tricks will for sure help you in speed reading if followed properly.
