Check Your Speed Reading Rate
Speed reading helps a reader to go through the text several times over as time is not a controlling factor. This also enhances comprehension. Speed reading is not a replacement to the normal reading habits, but is extremely useful in more than one ways. Hence, it is an excellent exercise to find out your speed reading tempo at frequent points while reading any book or content. But, you should also keep in mind that your comprehension rate is one another factor that also influences your reading velocity. It won’t make any sense, if your reading speed is 350-400 words per minute whereas while you read it you did not even understand a single word of it. Hence, understanding the content you are reading is of utmost importance while you are doing speed reading.<
One of the best strategies used for finding out your reading speed is to use an improvement chart report.
How to determine your velocity of reading?
Take any small paragraph and count the number of words in it. Then clock your watch when you start reading and stop it when you are done. Check how much time you took to completely the read the paragraph and comprehend it as well. Say for example: you took 10 seconds to read and understand a 60 word paragraph. Then, your reading speed will be: 60/10, i.e. 6 words per second or 6*60, i.e. 360 words per minute.
You repeat this for several different paragraphs and make a n
ote of it in the chart and then take out the average of it. You will get your average reading speed. You may then repeat these steps for several few days and note down the readings in the improvement chart report and can study it later and determine how well your reading speed improved.
Try and take material for reading which are from your interest area as that will help you comprehend the matter well and fast. If you follow these steps then I am sure you will definitely beat the limitations to your fast reading.
