Speed Readings VS Comprehension

Speed Reading- with so much stuff to read up that would most definitely increase our knowledge; speed-reading comes as not only a handy but also a necessary technique to us. There really are no particular techniques to improve your reading speed. Things work differently for different people. Some try focus on the word without focusing on the spelling. Some others try to skip words and get the gist of a sentence or a piece. Some sub-vocalize the pieces while some others skim the piece in to small sections. Speed-reading is often a trade off between reading and comprehension. However, with practice, rates of both can be drastically improved drastically with practice.

It is always found that people who read very fast are generally poor at comprehending pieces. The best reading and comprehending speeds till date, has been about 350 to 400 words a minute. Though there have been claims that some people can read up to 1000 or more words a minute, the claims have been found inevitably falsifications. Since speed-reading comes in so handy now, you could improve you’re reading skills through searching, meaning that you are not trying to comprehend anything that you read. However, such skimming is not very useful when you try to read journals, newspapers or novels at this pace. In fact at this rate, if you were given two completely different sets of paragraphs mixed, you would not even have the hang of it. And if you are in such a habit of cultivating speed-reading just for the sake of it, then you are most definitely and rather interestingly going to have the worst of estimation of your comprehension skills.

Experts opine that if you are interested in cultivating a habit of speed-reading, then you rather not go for the professional courses. These not only are expensive but also are comprehensive and rigorous. You could rather benefit by paying a small fees to the community college.
